Rev. John Han-Heum Oak was born in 1938 in South Kyongnam Province, South Korea. He received his theological training at Calvin Seminary, and received his Doctor of Ministry from Westminster Seminary in the U.S.A. Upon his return from America, he planted Sarang Community Church in the heart of Seoul in 1978. When he died in 2010, the congregation grew to over 50,000. His pastoral ministry was characterized by lay discipleship and expository preaching. He had served as Chairman of the Korean Church Association of Pastoral Renewal all his life. The Meaning of Suffering was his first book among over sixty books he has wirtten during his lifetime.
